Citizen Warrior,

I've seen this before, but it is still relevant. People really need to learn from the past.

Damien, you know a lot about history, right? What can you predict for the next year or so? What do you think is going to happen? Will the Obama administration go for the appeasement angle?

Citizen Warrior,

I can't say for certain what Obama will do. To a large degree the future is always cloudy. Judging by this video, Obama sounds naive enough to actually believe that appeasement might work. He might try to go the appeasement angle when it comes to Iran and our other enemies, but I doubt that he will try it with AL Qeada. According to my mom, he has already said that he wants to wipe the terrorist organization from the face of the Earth. But even if he were to try to appease Al Qeada, I have a feeling that even Obama knows that it would be political suicide. Too many Americans, understand that organization can not be reasoned with. Too many of us understand that they were the ones responsible for nine eleven. Unfortunately, that won't stop him from trying to appease Iran, or North Korea or Russia or the Saudis. Just as importantly it won't stop Obama from trying to appease Islamic fundamentalists. It won't stop him from unwittingly helping what Robert Spencer has called The_Stealth_Jihad. I have a bad feeling that he will choose to largely take the appeasement route, except when it comes to Al Qeada, since we are already at war with them and even he probably understands that it would make too many voters mad at him. But with the exception of the fight against Al Qeada, be prepared for a weak naive, Jimmy_Carter like president. Most likely, he will do what he thinks is good for the country and/or get him reelected, but his foreign policy will largely be based on wishful thinking.

Citizen Warrior,

Sorry I told you what you didn't want to hear. But I told you what I think is the most likely scenario. However I could be wrong. For one thing, in the video I linked to, where he promises to cut military spending, he could be lying to appease the democratic base. But I have a bad feeling he was telling the truth and that he may actually go through with his defense cuts. Not a good idea in a time of war, especially with a fanatical religious enemy that want to force us all to submit to their ideology or die.

That was clear. Thank you, Damien. I have put your comment in my EmailFuture.com file and it will be emailed to me in one year. I'll bet you're prediction turns out to be accurate.

I've seen an analysis of what Obama has said about dealing with Jihadis, and he has a law-enforcement attitude about Al Qaeda. In other words, he wants to hunt down the leadership and put them in jail, and he will consider his job done at that point.

Citizen Warrior,

I'll hope that I am proven wrong and that he will be tougher than either of us think.

I watched the video. I think you're probably right. He will try to do what he said there.

I don't have any desire to hear anything in particular. The world is what it is. Our only question is, what impact can we have on its direction? We have four years to work toward the election of a president who actually understands the third jihad.

Citizen Warrior,

In the mean time, lets try to elect senators and congressmen who will be the most likely to oppose the worst of Obama's policies. This would be a good time to have a republican house and senate.

What we have to remember is that appeasement had been the policy for years, was WILDLY popular -returning Baldwin and Chamberlain with large majorities, and was simply seen as a practical alternative to war ..so watch for that combination now, without the anathema of the name.

We have a large majority, and we have those looking for a nuanced FP in a time of great domestic distress and national angst.

The democrats will say missile defense is unproven, we don't need large aircraft carriers, nuclear submarines and fleets, or B-2's and F-22's or F-35 to fight people in caves and look to cut.

They will conduct another Church Commission, regardless of what Obama does.

They are going to TOTALLY de-emphasize foreign policy and use as the tool to make that less important an attempt to impose a peace in the ME to quiet turmoil, truly believing that a peace with Israel and the Arabs will solve 90% of the problems.

They are totally unprepared for the tough nuts in the Kremlin or Beijing.

It is now one year later. Did Damien predict accurately? I'd say he did.

Citizen Warrior,

I haven't seen you post anything on this blog for awhile. Its nice to see you here. I just wish I had been wrong and things with Obama had turned out more positive.

If anything, Damien underestimated the problem.
