The argument that it is "not American" to accept or reject a person based upon their chosen religion, seems to make sense.
HOWEVER, we need to understand religions are ideologies, not simply institutions brimming over with nice, spiritual feelings.
Religions are built upon texts and texts are built upon groups of ideas.
Among the ideas stipulated in the Koran are
1) Putting "apostates" to death. This goes against Freedom of Conscience, Freedom of Religion, and Freedom of Speech.
2) putting gays to death. We do not believe in this here in the United States, and I, for one, am glad we do not.
3) Murdering those who do not accept Islam's dominance.
These are just some of the ideas that make up Islam.
These are just some of the ideas that America fully rejects with it's Constitution and it's system of laws.
However, many people would propose that it is only a "tiny minority of extremists" who believe these ideas should be applied in the modern world.
Sadly, that is simply not true.

Great analysis. But don't you think it's time to start looking at Islam for what it is? It is a totalitarian political ideology, which has an enforcing arm called religion. But if we are to call it religion, it is a religion of evil. Period.

People at this point have trouble with the simple idea that religions are ideologies; a set of ideas.
Many people have trouble with the idea that one can break a system down into it's constituent ideas and analyze them one by one.
These ideas are difficult for people.

I love principles, good ideology, and above all integrity which is in effect honesty, but COMMON SENSE trumps them all. (pun intended)
The bottom line is 'The Constitution is not a suicide pact'!
Take a good, I mean a good look at all the great men in American history and you will find they ALL countered The Constitution when necessary.
We are gagging on gnats while swallowing camels.
This is all fucking insanity.
