Malaysian Blogger Jailed for Insulting Islam

NEW ZEALAND HERALD: Malaysia's leading blogger Raja Petra Kamaruddin has been ordered to spend two years in detention under internal security laws after being accused of insulting Islam.

His wife, Lee Abdulah, said the founder of the controversial Malaysia Today website had been sent to the Kamunting detention centre in northern Perak state under a detention order signed by the Home Minister.

Abdulah said police had told her "he will remain there for two years with no trial". [Source: NZ HERALD] September 24, 2008

Linked. Terrible what his wife has said: "Police had told her that he will remain there for two years with no trial".
It would be interesting to know what is so important to be held under "internal security laws" for "insulting Islam", something the article doesn't say.

It would be very interesting. But will we ever get to know?

This Islam thing is like a cancer in the world; and like all cancers, it should be excised!

Where are all the good politicians when we need them most? (Are there any?)

We will just have to wait... Someone in his entourage (a relative or another fellow blogger) is likely to release more information about this.

I personally find that a little bit difficult. And in any case, it's going to remain for a long time.

I personally would be reasonably happy if non-Muslims would be aware of the danger that islamism poses to any free society. The day that happens, we would be just in the middle of the path to victory (then it would be very easy to speak about solutions). But I really (and sadly) don't see people really interested in this threat.

I believe politicians are a mirror of society. When someone protests of politicians, just watch how he/she acts. Some citizens would be even worse than the politicians in charge...

But answering your question, I don't really see them interested in fighting any good fight. It's too tiring... it's much better to speak about unrealistic targets, but which make very good marketing campaigns.

Can you shed more light on this, please? What exactly do you find difficult. The cancer analogy?

Non-Muslims, or infidels are far too busy consuming to much care about the house falling down around them. And because they are so ill-informed, they understand very little about the problem.

They've got the 'don't bother me, I', enjoying myself' mentality.

The day that happens, we would be just in the middle of the path to victory (then it would be very easy to speak about solutions). But I really (and sadly) don't see people really interested in this threat.

We've got a long wait ahead of us, I fear. They are not interested in the threat, in the main.

How true.

Mark,

The people who don't find this appalling don't have enough value placed on human liberty. Even if it weren't for the fact that he wasn't given a trial, why should a state be allowed to imprison someone for insulting a religion? Where are the liberal secularists on this?

Hi Damien:

I couldn't agree with you more. Muslims always come up with the nonsense that "there is no compulsion in religion". Yet, time and time again, they show by their deeds that there most certainly is.

It will be a sad world indeed if the Muslims manage to take people's liberties away from them. As you know, that's exactly what they are trying to do; and it is to be hoped that the West will be stronger than it has been to stand up for far more civilized values.

Why indeed should someone be jailed for having views which are at variance with the Muslim hoards? And as you say: Where are the liberal secularists on this? They are strangely silent. Indeed, the silence is deafening!

Imagine the hullabaloo they'd make if this was a about a blogger being jailed by a 'Christian court'!
