Poland: A New Movie About Jan Sobieski

This is great news. (Thanks to our Anonymous commenter):

Victoria

"Victoria", a story of Jan Ill Sobieski's victory in the battle of Vienna, the day of true glory of European armies, achieved with a heroic help from His Majesty's secret agent. A great clash betwen Western world and Islam in the struggle for much more than the lands of the Habsburgs.

"Victoria's" obvioius audience are nations of Central Europe. However, through balanced, fictionalized treatment of history and emotional engagement of German-speaking nations as well as a very topical depictgion of political problems of present-day Europe, the film will find a wide audience on the whole Continent.

The attractiveness of the plot to the USA audience is a separate issue.

Here the storyline boldly and provocatively proposes a thesis that will not go unnoticed in this region of the world.

Neverless, the fictional content does not blur the historical facts. the Ottoman Empire has its englightened and radical representatives.

The Christian world, torn by the egoism of its leaders, listens intently to the voice of the church. Pope Innocent XI and his envoy father Marco d'Aviano not only successfully counter physical and political threat to Europe but also prevent the loss of the achievements of European civilization.

The style in which the events are described, resembling that of Sienkiewicz, which does not shun the fast pace of action, themes and characters attractive to a wide audience, serious elements but also pleasant entertainment, all make "Victoria" a potential box-office film in Europe and maybe in the world as well.

Believe it or not, there will also be a theme park with an educational angle.

YES!

The link was provided here - hence annon.

The way I read it, the movie and parks are all in the planning stages. Follow the link and see that the folks discussing the theme parks are looking for suggestions. The book appears to be available - only in Polish.

The documentary offers a video preview, so that may also be completed.

It's not clear what stage the film is in.

The website provides a WOW introduction . . .as it's prepared for an english speaking audience, for which I, for one, am very greatful.

As with the first announcement of LOTR trilogy being prepared years ago . . .the anticipation for "VICTORIA" grows with intensity!

I'm very impressed with the site's design and music. The writing in English is somewhat stilted. Looking forward to the film.

On a different subject, can someone explain why the Poles are so hostile toward Jews?

I have no freaking idea.

The production preparations and the search for a co-producer from the USA market are in progress. There are two ideas as far as the production goes: Polish-German and Polish-German-USA. In the second case, entering the USA market with the distribution will be easy and should take place in 2009/2010. In the first case, it can depend on the film success in Europe and the interest of the USA distributors.

Best Regards
AN

³Victoria² is a film about European history, which interesting enough mirrors current events happening all over the world. It maybe a coincidence, or maybe not, but this battle started in 1683 on September 11th

During the time of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, the period that will be depicted in the Victoria movie, Poland was the most hospitable nation in Europe for the Jews. Many Jews fled other parts of Europe, both East and West, to live in Commonwealth. I think what anti-semitism exists in Poland is a consequence of German, Austrian and Russian influence during the partition era.
