What The Hell Sholuld We Do?

See, that's me, playing in the Latin Quarter in Paris, with my fretless bass, wondering what the hell we should do.

Apparently, we have a decision to make. Should we switch to the new Blogger format or not?

If I do, apparently, everyone has to do so.

WC switched, and now he can not blog at Infidel Bloggers Alliance.

WC says he really sees very little difference between the old Bloggers system and the new Blogger.

So, what should we do?

Don't do it. It will totally fuck up the look of this blog and turn it into a jelly-mould look.

Besides, I bet you will lose all your data.

Besides, what improvement does that effing new thingy REALLY have to offer?

By the way, I have created a new ID and a new Blogger blog. Theoreticlally, everybody here could do that. So that would be a possibility, but don't do it, nevertheless.

What do you mean by a Jelly Mould look?

Can you give me a link to an example.

I'm with you. I am concerned that something will get fucked up if I make the change. Why fix it when it ain't broke?

I switched from old Blogger to the new Blogger when it was still in Beta and I did not lose any of any of my data. Of course I don't go back as far as far as you guys go, nor am I a team blog, but I have really enjoyed the new blogger. I haven't noticed much of a change in the posting area, except that it republishes automatically and you don't have to remember to republish your blog, and it is a lot faster. The main thing I like is the ease of adding/changing sidebar items. The one negative thing that I've found so far is that I can't post directly from YouTube, however that is easy to get around, you just copy the embed code and paste that into a new post. Hope this helps.

Pastorius said...

Yes, thanks Vicky. Does that mean that any YouTube video has to be in a separate post from any text? Or, do you just mean that you have to publish in compose mode before you go to html mode?

Vicki Claudio said...

No, you just paste the embed code in while you're in html mode, and then you can add your text in. At least that's how I do it, I hardly ever work in compose mode.

Thanks.

Hi pastorius -

Man, I don't know what to tell you on this. You know I have been chomping at the bit to join all you fine infidels here at IBA but can't since I'm Beta and you're not.

(I tried getting an old Blogger account recently and got shut out. It was Beta or nothing.)

Regarding Beta: I was having a lot of problems with old blogger so I switched early on. I didn't lose any data but there were other equally frustrating issues. Those seem to be ironed out now. Haven't tried posting you tube yet and it IS much easier to make sidebar changes. Can't remember if the selection of templates is as large, though. Other than that I don't notice anything different.

Good luck with whatever you guys decide to do. I'll still be reading you!

Cheers - Dinah
P.S. My blog totally has the jelly mould look, I think. Check it out and see.

Pastorius said...

Dinah,
Of course, I've read your blog many times, and I never noticed it not looking good, but I'll check it again with more of an eye towards that.

No go for me. I used your invites but IBA still does not show up on my dashboard. And the bastards at Google will not give you an email adress only their stupid blog help FAQ. You can post to the blogger group for problems but no one there answers your request.

I'm shut out of IBA until you convert and that will become madatory soon. Here's Google's ultimatum:

Bloggers,

We've been giving you warnings. The signs have been there. Preparations
have been made. Now, it's time!

That's right, it's time to embrace the new version of Blogger! Starting
today, a small percentage of users who log in to an old Blogger account
will be required to move to the new version. This involves moving your
current Blogger account to a new or existing Google Account. After the
move, you will need to log in to Blogger with your Google Account
username, which is always the email address associated with your
account. If you're one of the lucky folks who is prompted to move your
account over to the new version of Blogger, you'll be able to postpone
this process once (and only once) if you *really* need to get a post
out of your head or want to say goodbye to the old Blogger. After that,
it's time to befriend the new Blogger!

Pastorius said...

So, you're saying they're gonna do this to everyone?

Well, that does kind of change things.

Hey WC, why can't you create a second name temporarily? I know you don't want to create another blog, but you can create it ONLY to have another name.

And, it only takes a second.

No go. Set up a new account and still the invite does not work. IBA does not show up on dashboard of new account.

Can you send me anothe rinvite. Maybe you can only use it once.

Pastorius said...

Done.

The new blogger system uploads images much faster! Seems to work much faster. I still haven't figured how to avoid logging in almost every time on the new blogger.

"What do you mean by a Jelly Mould look?"

Sorry, that may be an Anglicism...

I mean that all blogs will look alike, coming out of the same mould.

It is sometimes a pain in the proverbial to change the template in the old version manually, but it is a challenge as well and at least my blog looks like no other blog in the entire WWW.

It doesn't hurt either to know some HTML.

When all is said and done, the new Blogger goes against my intense wish to be controlled as little as possible.

Gorse Fox switched yesterday, and he sees no difference at all in the look and feel, and still seems to have all of the fetures that he had before.

Don't worry.

Progress moves only in one way.
Sooner or later it will e compulsory and then there will be MORE data

GO !

Dinah Lord said...

Pastorius - WC.

Pastorius, you may recall from our adventures that you can use a blogger invite only once.

But now I'm curious. WC, were you able to get the second invite to work?

(I didn't get my second one to work)

Waiting with Beta-d breath for your reply...(ha-ha)

Pastorius said...

Dinah,
I don't believe it was a second invitation that was the problem. It's simply that anyone who has moved on to the new blogger systems is not compatible with us here at IBA.

That's why I'm asking if we should change.

Once we change, everyone has to change.

And, it will probably destroy my template at CUANAS, now that I think about it.

No luck on any attempt with invite. Here's what's happening.

The invite from IBA sends me to an old blogger log in page. My old blogger password no longer works and the page will not accept my new google password I use to blog now.

Basically, I see that invites from old blogs will not work with new blogs.

So I guess either Google answers my help posts or we wait until IBA is forced - like some of us - to go to the new one. Sooner or later everyone will be forced to go to the new blogger and no one with a new blogger account will be able to post to IBA until IBA switches.

That's the s**ts.

Pastorius said...

WC,
I feel like you and I are miscommunicating, but maybe I am wrong.

Why can't you set up a new account, and blog from a new account, until we are forced to change.

The problem is, if I change now, it will be you and me blogging at IBA and no one else.

Everyone else, thus far, is still on old blogger.

WC said...

I tried that and when I go back to log in it doesn't recognize me. If I try to open another account I have to have a gmail account for the new account and the confirm has to be sent to a cell phone that accepts text messages. I don't have one like that and I'm sure enoug not going to sign up for the text message service.

So it seems I'm pretty well locked out of IBA until the switch is forced upon us.

Is Google the new Nazis?

Pastorius said...

What a stupid problem we have here.

Perhaps I should just make the switch. Problem is, so many of our contributors are only periodic, so they will come here, try to post, and find they are locked out, and think I de-listed them.

You'd think Google would have thought of this problem and fixed it, those idiots.

Anonymous said...

SUCCESS!!

I got Blogger to accept the invite and my new account. I was able to post.

Keep things they way they are Pastorius - we know how to solve the problem for now.

Pastorius said...

Wow, how did you do it? Was it a cache issue?

Anonymous said...

I think so. I cleared both my cache and my cookies. Like you figured out, those on the new blogger will have to create a new blog on the old blogger to accept your invite and log into the old blogger to see the IBA dashboard.
