Funding The DaVinci Code

I found the following at Democracy Frontline:

"The chairman of the Christian Film and Television Commission says The Da Vinci Code is an anti-Christian and anti-Semitic film that was financed by a British Muslim. Ted Baehr says Mohammed Yusef's Invicta Capital put up most of the estimated 200 million dollars it cost to make the film version of Dan Brown's novel.

"Baehr told reporters at a Washington news conference, 'I think it's a very serious problem when people start funding movies and books to attack somebody else's religious faith.' He said the financial backing for The Da Vinci Code reveals 'a terrible double standard' by Muslims who erupt in violent protests when they believe their own faith is being attacked."

It might be a "serious problem", but the guy has the right to do it, AND, it will turn out to be a magnificent investment for him as well.

Pastorius,
I'm not disputing his right to do so, but I have to admit that I was flabbergasted when I read about the funding.

Yeah, it isn't surprising, though, that an Islamic guy would want to undermine the authority of Christianity.

Oh, by the way, don't be flabbergasted. Many movies are funded by crazy shiekhs and ME people. They get to have the title "Producer" and they get to rub elbows with stars.

Many Hollywood movies are funded in odd ways. Most banks, from what i have heard, will not take chances on movies.

This is kind of an old practice, AOW.

However, I am very glad you posted this, because I think it needs to be known.

Sorry if I am sounding pedantic.

It's a sad piece of irony that we now hear some of the Catholic bishops dropping hints that they would like to be able to "punish" those responsible for DaVinci Code in the Muslim manner. I refuse to get involved in gang wars. What is important to me is my right to think, and to say what I think, about any religion without being threatened or silenced.

Quite amusing, though, that the Christians are upset over insinuations that their "Savior" was married, while the Muslims refuse to explain why their Prophet married what was it, 3 women and a 9-year-old girl?

Little Red Bird,

I agree. I don't care what anyone says about God, or His Son. All of the hatred directed at God was destroyed already with Christ's Resurrection.

God is bigger than anything we can hurl at Him.

Besides, people must be free to criticize religion, because religion is one of the most powerful institutions of human society. If religion can not be criticized, then religion becomes an unchecked power.

Also, people must be allowed to exercise their free will with respect to religion, otherwise, they can not make a free choice to follow God.

God, I believe, would be very angry at the idea of humans impeding the free will of other humans.

I think the Da Vinci Code can be an opportunity. Christianity is not beyond question and this can open doors for discussions with non-Christians. As for punishing people that's just silly, the big difference is that we don't have to riot to prove a point. We can use reason and logic.

But according to Muslims, Allah has enemies who must be eliminated from the face of the earth. And Allah can't do the job himself, he needs to recruit psychopaths and thugs to do it for him.

Sort of makes you wonder...

Pastorius,
You didn't sound pedantic. I'm not knowledgeable about the movie industry.

ROP,

Yes, it does make you wonder.

Remember, Allah is the "god" who can be "humiliated."
