Athletes In Burqas - Wildly Appropriate

Nike - Just Do It:

Some Muslims believe girls should wear a jilbab - a traditional Islamic dress - which hampers agility.

Sports wear company Nike worked with the girls to find something appropriate and presented the designs last year.

Initially camp leaders renounced the outfits, but the girls have now convinced them of their suitability.

The UN refugee agency's Olivier Delarue, who saw one of the first volleyball matches, said the girls had a choice of outfits and went for the most traditional.

NYT has some corrections to happy BBC reporting:

"Some people think that if girls play sports they are prostitutes," Ms. Ibrahim said. "Our parents were embarrassed. They had bad feelings about girls playing outside."

Attitudes are changing, women say, but slowly. That helps explain why they are not interested in the abbreviated shorts and form-fitting tops that women's volleyball players in other parts of the world wear. All these young women dream of is a sporty hijab, one that covers them but doesn't cramp their style.

Sports lead to apostasy and adultery, you know.

Do you suppose that they could have it both ways by wearing the hijabs, but gain agility by pulling them up in the manner of a recent Infidel Babe?

No diet yet?
